Teens, ages 12-18, join Ken Hohenberger, STCC Professor of Computer Technology, on Wednesday, March 24 from 4-6 p.m., at the Central Library for a FREE hands-on computer workshop. More information and signup details here.

Altered BooksAltered Books!

Both teens and adults will have a chance to take part in an unusual art/sculpture program at the library! Springfield artist and teacher, Caren McKenzie, will guide participants as they rip, puncture, paint, and glue discarded books to create masterpieces of their own! For adults the program will be held at Pine Point, on April 7 & 14, from 4:30 - 7 pm; for teens, at Sixteen Acres on April 24 and May 1, 11 am - 12:30 pm. Sign up now!

New Library Director Appointed

For more about Ms. Fogarty and her vision for the future of the library, read the article in Wednesday's Springfield Republican.

Molly Fogarty, Library DirectorMayor Domenic J. Sarno has appointed Molly "Lee" Fogarty as Director of the Springfield City Library.  Ms. Fogarty has been serving as our Interim Library Director since  last August. Mayor Sarno stated that "Molly Fogarty is a talented professional who will ensure that the City continues to have outstanding public libraries for our residents. Molly's professional experience makes her a great asset to the Library Department and the City." Fogarty has been employed by the Springfield City Library for over 30 years, serving as Supervisor of the Brightwood Branch (1978-1979), Manager of the Brightwood Branch (1979-1992), Library Co-Director (1992-1994), Assistant Director (1994-2009) and Interim Library Director (August 5, 2009-present). Ms. Fogarty stated "The Springfield City Library has a long and distinguished history and is a greatly respected institution, symbolizing the best in community values and culture in providing services to the residents of Springfield. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead and know that with the support of Mayor Sarno, Springfield residents and library users, the Springfield Library Commission and our dedicated staff, the Springfield City Library will continue to provide innovative services."

Book GroupsKnit --- and Read -- at the Library!

Join one of the library's knitting groups: Knit-Alongs on Wednesdays at 1 pm at East Forest Park or Knit-Lits on Fridays at 10 am at East Springfield. And don't miss the NEW knitting clubs at East Forest Park on Wednesday evenings from 6 - 7:30 pm and at Forest Park on Thursdays from 5 - 6:30 pm.
