(WWLP) \u2013 The Springfield City Library announced the return of its community-wide reading initiative, \u201cOne Read, One Springfield,\u201d after a more than 15-year hiatus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative aims to bring neighbors together through meaningful conversation and lifelong learning through a shared reading experience. The selected book for this year\u2019s program is \u201cBraiding Sweetgrass\u201d by Robin Wall Kimmerer, a collection of essays exploring the relationship between people and the natural world through Indigenous wisdom, science, and storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Physical copies of \u201cBraiding Sweetgrass\u201d are available to borrow in English, Spanish, and a Young Readers Edition at every Springfield City Library branch. Digital copies are also available through Libby and Hoopla for patrons with a Springfield City Library card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOne Read, One Springfield is about more than reading the same book,\u201d said Chelsea Bell, supervisor of the East Forest Park Branch Library. \u201cIt\u2019s about creating shared experiences, meaningful conversations, and stronger connections throughout our community. I\u2019m thrilled to see this beloved program return and can\u2019t wait to welcome readers together this fall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adult readers in Springfield are encouraged to explore the important themes of the book through free library programming, discussions, and community events. Programs will be announced later this summer and will take place throughout the fall at library locations across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re excited to bring back a program that has the power to unite our community through stories,\u201d said Maggie Keane, Program and Training Librarian. \u201cLibraries have always been places where ideas are shared and connections are made, and One Read, One Springfield gives us an opportunity to extend those conversations beyond our walls and across the entire city.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents are encouraged to pick up a copy at their favorite Springfield City Library location or borrow the digital edition to begin reading this summer.
