Kellogg Foundation, in observing the <a href=\"https:\/\/healourcommunities.org\/day-of-racial-healing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 National Day of Racial Healing<\/a> on Tuesday, Jan. 19. On this day, thousands will celebrate our common humanity and take collective action toward a more just and equitable world.<\/p>\n<p>The day was established in 2017 by leaders across the United States who wanted to have a day to take action together.\u00a0 It is a day where people of all ages can come together to (<em>adapted from <a href=\"https:\/\/healourcommunities.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">healourcommunities.org<\/a><\/em>):<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li>Find ways to reinforce and honor our common humanity and create space to celebrate the distinct differences that make our communities vibrant.<\/li>\n<li>Acknowledge that there are still deep racial divisions in America that must be overcome and healed, and<\/li>\n<li>Commit to engaging people from all racial, ethnic, religious and identity groups in genuine efforts to increase understanding, communication, caring and respect for one another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/springfield.cwmars.org\/Record\/4218726\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-19923\" src=\"https:\/\/www.springfieldlibrary.org\/library\/assets\/2021\/01\/NotMyIdea-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.springfieldlibrary.org\/library\/assets\/2021\/01\/NotMyIdea-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.springfieldlibrary.org\/library\/assets\/2021\/01\/NotMyIdea-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.springfieldlibrary.org\/library\/assets\/2021\/01\/NotMyIdea.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SpringfieldCityLibrary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/spfldmasslib\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> on Tuesday, Jan. 19th for a recorded video storytime read by Children\u2019s Services Supervisor, Ellen Sulzycki, that you can share with your family at your convenience. She will be reading <a href=\"https:\/\/springfield.cwmars.org\/GroupedWork\/0ebab586-3ce8-159b-f4a6-6348a37e3625-eng\"><em>Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness<\/em><\/a> by Anastasia Higginbotham, a picture book about racism and racial justice, inviting white children and parents to become curious about racism, accept that it&#8217;s real, and cultivate justice.<\/p>\n<h4>Resources<\/h4>\n<p>We also have additional reading suggestions for all ages:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.springfieldlibrary.org\/library\/anti-racism-books\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Books About Anti-Racism and Marginalized Voices<\/a> (Springfield City Library)<\/li>\n<li>American Library Association\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilovelibraries.org\/librariestransform\/library-not-just-resource-its-community\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recommended reading lists on race and equality for all ages and reading levels<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Anti-Defamation League\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adl.org\/education-and-resources\/resources-for-educators-parents-families\/childrens-literature\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Children\u2019s Literature List<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/diversebooks.org\/resources-for-race-equity-and-inclusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Collection of Diverse Book Lists<\/a> from WeNeedDiverseBooks.org<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/sites\/ala.org.alsc\/files\/content\/compubs\/booklists\/Unity.%20Kindness.%20Peace%20%281%29.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Unity, Kindness and Peace Booklist <\/a>by the American Library Association<\/li>\n<li>Saint Paul Public Library&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/sppl.org\/resources-on-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resources on Race<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And here is a guide to help get these very important conversations started:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healourcommunities.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Conversation-Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CONVERSATION GUIDE &#8211;
