Forest Park Branch

Opened in 1909, the Forest Park Branch, of the Springfield City Library, located at 380 Belmont Avenue, is an Andrew Carnegie Library built in the Beaux Arts style.

History of the Library

Springfield Library Company was begun prior to 1796. Yet this and other libraries like it were not public libraries, but were limited to specific groups of people. In 1857 the City Library Association was formed, and although still privately funded, a room in City Hall was provided for use as a library.

Early Childhood Resource Center

The ECRC consists of books and other resources especially appropriate for teachers and caregivers working with young children. The only thing you need to borrow these resources is a library card!

Library Commission

Members of the Springfield Library Commission are appointed by the Mayor of the City of Springfield. All meetings unless otherwise noted will be held on the first Wednesday of the month in the Community Room of the Central Library, 220 State Street, and begin at 5:30 PM.

Library Express at Pine Point

Library Express at Pine Point, located at 204 Boston Post Road, opened in 1931 as a branch of the Springfield City Library. This long standing neighborhood library also serves as the home of the Read/Write/Now Adult Literacy Program.

East Springfield Branch

The East Springfield Library was the fourth branch to be built for the City of Springfield, in 1932. It houses a comprehensive browsing collection, including a large collection of contemporary adult fiction.
