Michael Tougias will give a lecture and slide presentation on the 1675-1676 war between the Colonists and Native Americans at the Pine Point Branch Library, 204 Boston Road, Springfield, on Thursday, June 26, at 6 pm. The event is free and open to the public; no registration is necessary, and copies of Tougias' books Until I Have No Country: A Novel of King Philip's War and King Philip's War: The History and Legacy of America's Forgotten Conflict will be available for purchase and signing.
The presentation begins with a discussion of the Indian way of life, Colonial settlements, and events leading up to the war. Then, learn about the battles and strategies that shaped this cataclysmic war, which on a per capita basis was the bloodiest in our nation's history. Slides depict battle sites, historic markers, and suggestions for visiting roadside history. Tougias discusses Native strategy during the war and his own challenges writing a historical novel, which was described by Edith Andrews, member of the Wampanoag Tribe, as "captur[ing] the essence of the Native American."
Tougias' other books include the national bestseller Fatal Forecast: An Incredible True Tale of Disaster and Survival at Sea as well as River Days: Exploring the Connecticut River From Source to Sea , and the award-winnng There's a Porcupine In My Outhouse!
