King Philip's Indian War In New England

King Philip's WarMichael Tougias will give a lecture and slide presentation on the 1675-1676 war between the Colonists and Native Americans at the Pine Point Branch Library, 204 Boston Road, Springfield, on Thursday, June 26, at 6 pm. The event is free and open to the public; no registration is necessary, and copies of Tougias' books Until I Have No Country: A Novel of King Philip's War and King Philip's War: The History and Legacy of America's Forgotten Conflict will be available for purchase and signing.

The presentation begins with a discussion of the Indian way of life, Colonial settlements, and events leading up to the war. Then, learn about the battles and strategies that shaped this cataclysmic war, which on a per capita basis was the bloodiest in our nation's history. Slides depict battle sites, historic markers, and suggestions for visiting roadside history. Tougias discusses Native strategy during the war and his own challenges writing a historical novel, which was described by Edith Andrews, member of the Wampanoag Tribe, as "captur[ing] the essence of the Native American."

Tougias' other books include the national bestseller Fatal Forecast: An Incredible True Tale of Disaster and Survival at Sea as well as River Days: Exploring the Connecticut River From Source to Sea , and the award-winnng There's a Porcupine In My Outhouse!


Biography

Michael TougiasMichael Tougias is a lecturer and award-winning author of 17 books. His latest book Fatal Forecast: An Incredible Tale of Disaster and Survival at Sea was praised by the Los Angeles Times as "a breathtaking book - Tougias spins a marvelous and terrifying yarn." The author's other true adventure book, Ten Hours Until Dawn: The True Story of Heroism and Tragedy Aboard the Can Do in the Blizzard of 78, was selected by the American Library Association as one of the "Top Books of the Year" and described as "a white-knuckle read, the best book of its kind." Tougias has researched dozens of survival stories and includes them in his lecture for businesses titled, Survival Lessons: Decision-making Under Pressure.

 

There's a Porcupine in My Outhouse!On a lighter note, Tougias chronicled his misadventures at his remote cabin in Vermont in his award-winning book There's A Porcupine In My Outhouse: Misadventures of a Mountain Man Wanna-be.
