LA HERENCIA DE MI ABUELO
AL TERMINAR LA EXISTENCIA
DE MI ABUELO QUE MURIÓ,
A MI FUE QUE ME DEJÓ
UNA GRAN VALIOSA HERENCIA,
ME DEJÓ MUCHAS DOLENCIAS
LAS CUALES TENGO PRESENTE,
ME DEJÓ AMOROSAMENTE
DOS CUERDAS Y MEDIAS DE YUCA,
SU BASTÓN Y SU PELUCA,
TAMBIEN LA CAJA DE DIENTE.
CIEN GALLOS YA UNA GALLINA
CON UN ÁRBOL DE ALGARROBA,
ME DEJÓ TAMBIEN LA ESCOBA,
UN ANAFRE YA LA LETRINA;
UN FRASCO DE MEDICINA
QUE TODAVIA ME DURA,
DEJÓ CON MUCHA DELZURA
UN PILÓN Y LA MAZETA,
ME DEJÓ SUS DOS MULETAS
Y TAMBIEN SU MASCAURA.
HEREDÉ TAMBIEN LA HAMACA
EN LA QUE EL DESCANSABA,
ME DEJÓ UNA PERRA BRAVA
Y TAMBIEN SU YEGUA FLACA,
DEJÓ TAMBIEN LA JATACA,
LOS CALZONES Y EL SOMBRERO,
DEJÓ TAMBIEN EN ROPERO
CON UNA VIEJA PILLAMA,
ME DEJÓ TAMBIEN LA CAMA
Y EN EL MATRE UN AGUJERO.
SI HOY BLANCO YO TENGO EL PELO
Y SI ME DUELEN LOS HUESOS,
NO ME PREOCUPO POR ESO
PORQUE ES HERENCIA DE ABUELO,
RECUERDO CON MUCHO ANHELO
LOS AÑOS DE SU EXPERIENCIA,
Y SI USTED TIENE PACIENCIA,
ME APRECIA Y ME SIMPATIZA,
¿POR QUÉ ENTONCES NO ME AVISA?
PARA YO DARLE ME HERENCIA.
[ The poet recalls the legacy of his grandfather, who upon his death, left the poet many simple quotidian items. But the poem also suggests the longing the author has for his grandfather and his desire to pass the legacy along to the reader.]
“Desde la edad de diez años he venido componiendo poesias, mi especialidad es la poesia estilo décima, aunque tengo el don de comoner cualquier estilo de poesia. Es la primera vez que se me presenta la oportunidad de participar en un concurso. Hace tiempo tengo la idea de hacer un libro que incluyen las más de tresienta poesea que tengo recopiladas. No es tan solo mi deseo el salir ganador, pero más bien dar a conocer al público mis obras poeticas.”
“I have been writing poems since the age of 10, and my specialty is the d écima style, although I have the gift of composing all styles of poetry. [A décima is an octosyllabic style of poetry with ten lines.] This was the first opportunity I had to participate in a contest. I 've long wanted to publish a book that includes the more than 300 poems I've compiled. I'm not just interested in winning the contest; it's the opportunity to let the public know about my poetic works.”
