This year's One Book, One Springfield culminating event takes place at the Central Library, 220 State Street. In the spirit of Morrie Schwartz's zest for life and of Mitch Albom's attempt to savor what our elders can teach us, we are featuring events that show us how to live a healthy, meaningful life now and to preserve our memories for others in the future. Highlighted at the event are:
- Creative memories projects: scrapbooks, family photos, heirlooms, and other artistic expressions of their heritage. Participants of One Book Scrapbooking workshops can show off their projects.
- Oral history recordings: listen to the collective voices and stories of Springfield area residents in an audio project called The Sounds of Springfield - a compilation of participants' narratives in our oral history interviewing project.
- Social Dancing and Group Exercise: Morrie loved social dance, and a group of local dance instructors will strut their stuff. Group exercise instructors will demonstrate techniques to stay healthy through yoga, stretching and balancing activities.
- Community volunteer groups and health organizations will provide information about their activities.
- Essay contest winners will read their stories about a person who has made a difference in their life.
