Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Springfield Museum of Fine Arts
Saturday, April 29, 1 - 4 p.m.

The 451 Showcase is an opportunity for people who have read Fahrenheit 451 to respond to the book creatively. You may want to dance, rap, sing, mime, read, sign, act, draw, paint, sculpt, or quilt your response to the book. Be creative! Work by yourself or with others and be prepared to wow the 451 audience at the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts on Saturday, April 29. Not feeling creative? Attend the 451 Showcase to see how others in the community were inspired by the book.

For inspiration, you may want to take Painting with Mixed Media: The Art of Fahrenheit 451, a special art class offered in cooperation with the Springfield Museums, on April 8 and 22. Registration is limited, and is free to Springfield residents aged fifteen and up.

First place winners of the Burning Issues essay contest (deadline April 5) will also have the opportunity to read their essays at the showcase.

Perform!
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

If your creative response is in the form of a performance, contact Ann Keefe by April 24 at akeefe@springfieldlibrary.org or (413) 263-6828, ext. 294 with the following information:

  • Length of performance (5, 10, or 15 min.)
  • Type of performance
  • Number and names of performers
  • Title

Performances will take place in the Davis Auditorium of the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts on a stage with standard lighting and sound equipment. The performance will be videotaped, and all performers will be asked to sign a release form.

Exhibit!
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

If your creative response is a painting, drawing, sculpture, quilt, etc., submit it to any Springfield library location by April 24 and include:

  • Your name
  • Title of piece
  • Medium

For works larger than 4’ x 6’, please contact Ann Keefe for arrangements.

Artwork will be displayed in the Tuscany Room of the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts during the performance, with a special viewing time during the refreshment break.
