WHAT IS THE BOOKS-BY-MAIL PROGRAM? Participants in this program regularly receive library materials mailed to their homes at no charge. WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Any Springfield resident who is homebound or disabled. HOW DO I REGISTER? Just mail back the registration form/interest profile. Remember to stamp the envelope. (That is your only cost!) To obtain a registration form and accompanying materials, please
CAN I REQUEST OTHER MATERIALS BESIDES BOOKS? You may request items in any format, including videos, CDs, and books on tape. Regular item limits (i.e., no more than 3 videos at a time) will apply. You will receive more information in the "Guidelines for Use" after you register. HOW MANY ITEMS CAN I RECEIVE AT ONE TIME? HOW LONG CAN I KEEP THEM? You may request up to 6 items at a time. The total loan period is 4 weeks from the date the materials were mailed to you from the library. When the items are returned, you will be sent a new selection. HOW DO I RECEIVE TITLES THAT ARE OF INTEREST TO ME? Be sure to fill out the "interest profile" which describes your reading tastes. Based on this profile, a professional librarian will regularly select materials for you. You will receive a new interest profile in every mailing so you will be able to change your choices, request specific titles, or give feedback on how you are enjoying the selections. WHAT ARE OTHER OPTIONS FOR PEOPLE WHO FIND IT DIFFICULT TO GET TO THE LIBRARY? The National Library for the Blind provides loans of audiotape and braille books by mail to people with disabilities. Enclose a note with your registration form, request a form from the Springfield City Library at 413-263-6828 ext. 291, inquire at the Reference Desk (413-263-6828 ext. 213), e-mail jcanosa@springfieldlibrary.org, or call The National Library for the Blind directly at 1-800-852-3133. The Springfield City Library's "Designated Borrower" option allows disabled individuals to authorize another person to borrow materials on their behalf. Enclose a note with your registration material, inquire at the Main Library's Borrowers' Services Desk, (413-263-6828 ext. 218), or e-mail jcmero@springfieldlibrary.org for more information.
