The Summer Reading Club is an amazing opportunity to earn all kinds of raffles and prizes – just by reading! All ages can participate, from newborns to adults. To join, stop by any of our library locations.

Start date: Monday, June 12th

End date: Saturday, August 26th

Read To Me (for infants, toddlers, and pre-readers) Pick up a reading log at any branch. Color in one globe on the sheet for every book you read with your child. When the log is full, bring it in and exchange it for a book prize! Keep it up all summer long for more prizes. Scroll down to see the special Kickoffs, Celebrations, and Finale events we’re having this summer as a part of the Summer Reading Club!

Children (for grades K-5 and independent readers) Pick up a reading log at any branch. Color in a section of the world map on the reading log for every day you read 20 minutes or more. When you’ve colored in seven sections, bring it in and claim your “brag beads” and other prizes. Completing your first two reading logs will earn you a free book! Scroll down to see the special Kickoffs, Celebrations, and Finale events we’re having this summer as a part of the Summer Reading Club.

Teen (for grades 6-12) Register online here or pick up a paper reading log. Log every day that you read for at least 30 minutes; you’ll win prizes after reading for 7 days, 28 days, and 56 days. You can also earn raffle tickets by attending teen programs at the library – attending one program gets you an entry into the grand prize raffle! Teens: when you sign up for the Summer Reading Club, be sure to ask your librarian about a special teen fine forgiveness program we have this summer!

Adult Earn raffle tickets by doing any of the following: Read and Win: Read any book you want (books, ebooks, audiobooks, and comic books all count). Then, write a review and turn it in. Paper review cards are available at your library’s reference desk or you can e-mail your review to AskALibrarian@springfieldlibrary.org. You earn one raffle entry for every review you submit.

If you read and review a book from the “Build a Better World” reading list (available here soon, and available at your library’s reference desk starting June 19th) you earn two raffle tickets.

Write and Win: Community members are invited to write essays that answer the question How can we—individually or communally—constructively build a better world locally, nationally, or globally? Selected essays will be posted on the Library’s website throughout the summer, as well as at the Adult Summer Reading Finale.

Earn one raffle ticket for a 200-300 word essay
Earn two raffle tickets for a 301-750 word essay
Earn three raffle tickets for an essay over 750 words

To help writers connect with the essay theme, we put together a “Build a Better World” reading list, available at your library’s reference desk and soon on the library website.

Written essays can be given to any Springfield City Library librarian, and typed essays can be e-mailed to AskALibrarian@springfieldlibrary.org.

Essays must include your full name and an active telephone number or email address. When you submit your essay, please tell the librarian if we can use your name on our website and/or our display board should we select your essay for posting. The essay portion will have its own raffle separate from the rest of the Reading Club. The raffle prize is a $40 gift card to Lux Burger and will be awarded at the Adult Summer Reading Club Finale on August 30th. Library staff reserve the right to select which essays are best suited for public posting.

All book review and essay submissions are due by 5 PM on Saturday, August 26th.

Attend and Win: Earn raffle tickets by attending Book Clubs programs, Literary Spotlight programs, and other book-related events at any branch. Earn one raffle ticket per event attended. Raffle drawings will be held at the Ice Cream Social and Adult Summer Reading Club Finale (see below).
