Did you know…that the most critical period of vocabulary development occurs between birth and age 3? Everyone knows that the children who start Kindergarten with the largest vocabularies have the easiest time learning to read and stay in school the longest, but not everyone knows that most of the foundation for success is laid BEFORE the age of 3. Bringing your child to storytime is more than just fun–it’s brain building!

Storytimes are available at many of our branches during the summer months. We have also added Summer Lunch Outreach Storytimes at two city parks, Emerson Wight and Magazine Playground. Here is the schedule:

Central Library

Saturday Storytime
Saturdays, 1:30 pm. Ongoing.

Join us for stories and a craft. Perfect for ages 3-8, siblings are welcome! No registration required.

Preschool Storytime
Tuesdays, 10:30 am, June 24 – August 12.

For ages 3-5 years, and siblings welcome. Join us in the Central Library Community Room for stories, songs, and a craft! Preregistration required if bringing more than four children.

Pajama Storytime
Mondays, 6:30 p.m., June 23 – August 11, ages 3-8, siblings welcome, Children’s Program Room
Come in your pajamas and enjoy bedtime stories and songs! We’ll finish with a tasty snack.

Children’s Bilingual Club
Wednesdays, 1:30 – 2 pm, July 2 -23

HELLO! HOLA! Would your children like to join our young bilingual story club, English-Spanish? We’ll be meeting on Wednesdays from 1:30 pm – 2:00 pm. Bring your little ones to the library to sing, dance, play and meet new friends. Best of all participants will have the opportunity to listen to some very good stories! This 30-minute program is appropriate for children 2 – 4 years old, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Please call 413-263-6805 to sign up. See you at the library!

HOLA! HELLO! Le gustaria que sus niños participen en el Club de lectura bilingue, English-Español?. Vamos a reunirnos los Miercoles de 1:30 – 2:00 pm. Traiga a sus niñitos a la biblioteca a cantar, bailar, jugar y conocer nuevos amiguitos. Lo mas importante es que los participantes tendran la oportunidad de escucharan cuentos muy buenos.
