Did you know…that the most critical period of vocabulary development occurs between birth and age 3? Everyone knows that the children who start Kindergarten with the largest vocabularies have the easiest time learning to read and stay in school the longest, but not everyone knows that most of the foundation for success is laid BEFORE the age of 3. Bringing your child to storytime is more than just fun–it’s brain building!

Storytimes are available this summer! Here is the schedule:

Central Library

Family Storytime
Saturdays, 1:30 pm. Ongoing in the Children’s Program Room.

Join us for stories, songs, and a craft. Perfect for ages 3-10, siblings are welcome! No registration required.


Brightwood Branch

Bilingual Storytime at Brightwood
Wednesdays, ongoing, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Community Room.

Join us for stories, songs, movement, fingerplays, a craft, and playtime. No registration required. Adult must accompany children. Space is limited to 12. Presented in collaboration with Home City Families. Ages 12 months-6 years, siblings welcome.

Hora de cuentos bilingües en la Biblioteca Brightwood
Todos los miércoles, 1:30 a 2:30 p.m., Salón Comunitario.

Acompáñenos para cuentos, canciones, actividades, y tiempo para jugar. No requiere inscripción previa. Un adulto debe acompañar a los niños. Plazas limitadas a 12 niños con un adulto. Facilitated and sponsored by Home City Families. There will not be a Storytime on June 9, since the library will be closed for an all staff meeting.

Join us for stories, songs, movement, fingerplays, a craft, and playtime. No registration required. Adult must accompany children. Presented in collaboration with Home City Families. Ages 1-3 ½, siblings welcome.

Lunch Bunch at Forest Park
First Saturday of the month except holiday weekends, 1-2 p.m.

Come and enjoy a fun interactive story, an engaging activity and a free light lunch. Recommended for children ages 5-12. Sponsored by Faith United Church.
Note: The July program will beheld on July 8 because of the July 4 holiday.

Family Literacy Fun
Tuesdays 11:30am, May 2 -June 12 AND July 11

Parents from non-English speaking families are invited to the library to enjoy stories, crafts and activities. Families will leave with books and activities to do at home! Presented in partnership with Home City Families. Call 413-886-5158 for more information or to sign up.
