Microsoft Office and Job Seeker Workshop Series

Looking for a new job? Want to increase your computer skills? Looking to impress during an interview?

The Springfield City Library is partnering with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department’s Workforce Team to provide a free two-part training program for jobseekers featuring Microsoft Office classes and job seeker workshops.

Held on three consecutive Thursdays in December, the Microsoft Office classes are scheduled in the Central Library Computer Lab from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the job seeker workshops are scheduled in the community room from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A light lunch will be served between sessions.

Registrants should plan to attend all sessions. Those who complete the program will receive a certificate and a referral for a either a free suit or interview outfit, courtesy of Suit Up Springfield or Dress for Success.

Workshop Schedule:

Thursday, December 7 – 10:00-12:00 – Word: Having good word processing skills is fundamental to achieving success at the computer. Come to this two-hour, hands-on workshop for an introduction to the most popular word processing program, Microsoft Word, and sharpen your skills with standard formatting and editing tools.

12:00-1:00 – Lunch

1:00-2:30 – Finding a Job: What you need to do before you start your job search, job-search strategies, and local resources and organizations that can help with the job-search process.

Thursday, December 14 – 10:00-12:00 – Microsoft Powerpoint: PowerPoint is everywhere! This powerful software package is used at home and at work for organizing slides and photos, and helping people give great presentations. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll make multipaged, basic PowerPoint files complete with edited images and enhanced with stylish templates giving you the skill needed for success with this popular program.

12:00-1:00 – Lunch

1:00-2:30 – Getting a Job: This workshop focuses on cover letter basics, resumes, and interviewing skills.

Thursday, December 21 – 10:00-12:00 – Microsoft Excel: Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel, the world’s leading desktop spreadsheet. Excel is used both at home and in the office to help with a wide range of personal and business management services including basic bookkeeping and accounting, to maintaining mailing lists and more.

12:00-1:00 – Lunch

1:00-2:30 – Keeping a Job: This workshop will go over work/life balance and the skills needed for the modern work environment.
