Comic Creation Workshops Offered at Libraries

Graphic Novel Programs for Teens Led by Local Author

Local author Haven Williams will be leading teen comic creation programs at two Springfield City Library locations this August. The first, called “Writing and Drawing Your Own Graphic Novel” is a three-part workshop series led by Williams and artist Nancy Nguyen. The first workshop will focus on drawing basic shapes and faces and creating page layout and will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday August 5th. The second workshop will focus on shading, writing dialogue balloons, and sound effects and will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 12th. The third workshop will be focus on creating motion, choosing color, and developing heroes and villains and will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 19th. The whole series will be held in the Mason Square Branch Library, located at 765 State Street in Springfield.

Williams will also be hosting “Comic Book Creation: Intensive Workshop” from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16th at the East Forest Park Branch Library. Intended for ages 9-19, Williams will teach how to tell a story visually and guide students through the process of creating comic book panels. The program is geared toward both writers and artists.
