Health Help Online—Focus on Pain Management: Finding relevant and reliable health and medical information can be difficult, but Baystate librarian Margot Malachowski makes it easy in this hands-on workshop geared especially for people looking to better manage pain. The ability to use a keyboard and a mouse is assumed.

Finding Job Advertisements Online: Where are the best places to look for job advertisements? Are some websites more helpful than others? This class gives you practical tips for finding job ads, and explores key job advertising websites. A basic familiarity with the web including email is recommended. Led by Lori.

 Introduction to Excel: Excel can help manage household and small business budgets and with creating address books, membership lists, and much more. This class covers spreadsheets, formulas, and data entry. Basic knowledge of computers is assumed. Led by Anna.

 

Classes are held in the computer lab located on the ground level at 220 State St, unless otherwise noted. Use the State Street entrance. All classes are free and open to the general public.

Would you like to find out where to get reliable, relevant health information on the Internet? Consider signing up for one or all of the free computer workshops to be taught by Margot Malachowski, Outreach Librarian at Baystate Health. The monthly classes (no class in December or January) will be held on Saturday mornings from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Central Library Computer Lab, 220 State Street, Springfield. One-on-one training for seniors at Forest Park, East Forest Park, and Pine Point

Half-hour sessions are available with trained volunteers who will help you get started with the wide world of computers at various branches throughout the city! This service is intended for beginners who need one-on-one help becoming more comfortable with the mouse, keyboard, and Windows desktop environment.

  • SeniorNet Mouse Exercises Learn about placing, clicking, drag & drop, and drawing the mouse.
  • New User Tutorial This tutorial is designed to help people who have never used a computer before. It concentrates on using the mouse and a few other basic skills.
  • LearnFree.org Free online computer tutorials, as well as tutorials for everyday living, money matters, and more, from Goodwill Community Foundation. Free registration required for online courses.
  • Online Typing Course A structured touch typing course for motivated individuals looking to develop their keyboard skills and a free resource to aid supervised keyboarding education in schools, companies, and organizations.
