Computer Basics: Learn to identify the basic parts of the computer, and to become familiar with the Windows operating system. The instructor will answer questions and introduce the class to the library's most popular computer programs, as well as offering tips for navigating the internet in this fast-paced class. Introduction to Microsoft Word: This two part, hands on class will introduce students to the basics of word processing with Microsoft Word. Part I will review standard PC and Windows operations as well as introductory aspects of Word. Part II will review Part I, and will introduce some more advanced aspects of Word such as making columns, working with simple images, spacing, bullets, and more. Familiarity with a mouse is expected. Introduction to the Web: This class assumes little or no computer experience, just a willingness to explore the Internet. We will learn how to use the browser Microsoft's Internet Explorer , how to navigate webpages, and how to efficiently search for specific websites and topics of interest. This class will be part lecture and part open clinic, with a chance to practice and ask questions. Led by Chris.

Foundation Directory Online Database: This database is a powerful tool for the nonprofit community, providing access to 90,000+ U.S. foundations, grantmaking public charities, and corporate givers, with links to over 7,000 grantmaker and corporate websites and IRS 990-PF and 990 returns. This class serves as an orientation to the database, including how to search, tips and tricks, and additional information about the resources available at the Foundation Center website. This class is limited to representatives of area nonprofit and grassroots organizations. Led by Donna.

Next Reads--a computer class for book lovers: This class will help readers discover books they like by using the Web. Topics will include advanced features in the library's catalog, a review of the library database NoveList, an introduction to ebooks and where to find them, and more. Introduction to Email: This class walks brand-new email users through the process of setting up a free email account, logging in, composing and sending messages, and opening and reading received messages. The class is intended for those who do not yet have an email account, though familiarity with the web and computer basics is required. Time permitting, the class will also demonstrate how to add and open attachments. Led by Donna.

One-on-one training for seniors at Forest Park, East Forest Park, Pine Point and Sixteen Acres
Half-hour sessions are available with trained volunteers who will help you get started with the wide world of computers at various branches throughout the city! This service is intended for beginners who need one-on-one help becoming more comfortable with the mouse, keyboard, and Windows desktop environment.

Classes are held in the computer lab located on the ground level at 220 State St, unless otherwise noted. Use the State Street entrance. All classes are free and open to the general public.
