The Springfield City Library invites you to join chess coach Haven Williams for a series of programs that are all about chess!
Adults of all ages are welcome to participate, but we especially welcome the 50+ crowd to this series of events.
"New Games in Chess"
Monday, June 16, 6 - 8 pm
Central Library Community Room
Come learn about a variety of chess variations - including Millenium Chess, Gothic Chess, Omega Chess, 16-pawn Chess, and Bughouse Chess. Participants must already know how to play "regular chess."
"Chess for Beginners"
Saturday, June 21, 12 noon - 3 pm
Forest Park Community Room
An introduction to the equipment, basic moves and how to keep building your chess skills. Open to all beginners.
If you think you might be interested in either learning how to play chess or improving your chess skills, join Chess Coach Haven Williams in a short interactive seminar in order to get an overview of chess. Through this interactive seminar you will be exposed to what you will need to learn in order to play chess and what you need to do in order to improve your chess game.
"Chess Problem-Solving Event"
Monday, June 23, 6 - 8 pm
Central Library Community Room
Put your problem-solving skills to the test in this relaxed competition.
Adult Chess Tournament
Saturday, June 28, 9 am - 3 pm
Central Library Community Room
Chess Tournament for ages 17+. Prizes will be awarded! Please arrive on time! Play will start promptly at 9:30 am. Players must know how to play using a chess clock - arrive early if you need a "clock review." Limited to 16 players.
