Ordinary

By Sarah Peloquin

Sometimes I use words too big for my size,
Not for others to see that I am wise,
But to understand the world that I live in
And to cherish the hope and joy I've been given.
I am ordinary,
I say, it's true,
And this I'll
Tell to you.

Am I a writer or perhaps an artist?
I speak with my words, not my fists.
I can see the world with a greater scope,
And the view that I see gives me hope.
Sure I have anger,
That much is true.
Here is what
I'll tell to you.

The heart beat of many, beating as one,
Not pulling a trigger, not holding a gun,
Not keeping a grudge, not starting a fight,
Not doing wrong, not fleeing in fright.
I am different
Of course it's true,
Here are my reasons
I'm telling you.

I'm just a child; well that's what they say,
I am ordinarily unique, that's what I say.
My reasons will pile, my spirits will soar,
Oh, that's the bell, I'm out the door.
I am unique
That much is true,
And with this poem
I've proved it to you.

Inuyasha

By: Chelsea D.

Inuyasha is about a 15 year old girl, named Kagome, who lives in a shrine with her grampa, mother, and little brother, Sota. One day, their cat gets into the "Bone eaters well" and Kagome goes down to get him. Suddenly, near the well, a creature grabs Kagome and drags her into the well. When Kagome climbs out of the well, she is not in Tokyo anymore.

She runs to the tree, which helped her find her way home when she was little, where she finds a boy with dog ears. Kagome frees him and later finds out he's a dog demon and that she has been teleported back in time to the warring states. She finds out that the "Shikon Jewel" gives great powers to demons and that she has it. When a crow demon snatches it from Kagome, she shoots an arrow and shatters the jewel. Kagome and Inuyasha must gather all the pieces of the Shikon Jewel or mass chaos will fall upon the warring states.

Lewis Carrol

Many people know Lewis Carrol for his famous books "Alice's Adventures in Wonder Land " and "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There." However, many people do not know that Lewis Carrol is actually a pen name. In reality, he was known as Charles Dodson, the Master of Math and Logic. He was most famous for his books "The Game of Logic" and "Symbolic Logic." These two books are interesting because of their ability to not make any sense and yet be perfectly understood. Dodson developed a way of using mathematical formulas to decipher problems. The most basic formula was X = some Y1 = some Y2. Meaning that if X = cats, Y1 = chickens and Y2 = French. Using logic, you could come to the conclusion that some cats speak French, some cats are chickens, and some chicken cats can speak French.

Dodson would make up such problems of nonsense so people could have no predetermined thoughts or opinions on the puzzle he gave them. Dodson was fond of these logic puzzles and would often use them to test the intellect of different people he met. It is even believed by a few that both of his classic Alice books are the result of the ultimate logic formula. If you have this formula, the illogical becomes logical and the nonsense becomes perfect sense. There is evidence of this in some of his poems such as the Jabberwocky. In which the poem is written backwards and doesn't make any sense, but when Alice holds a mirror up to the poem it becomes understandable.

Fruits Basket

By: Chelsea D.

Fruits Basket is about a girl named Tohru Honda whose mother passed away and lives in a tent. One day, she walks around and notices there is a house nearby. She notices that a popular boy, named Yuki Sohma, lives in the house with his cousin, Shigure Sohma. By accident, after a boy named Kyo crashes through the roof and begins fighting with Yuki, Tohru trips and falls on Yuki. When Tohru looks up, she sees a cat in her arms. She is then told that when a person with the opposite gender hugs a person cursed with a spirit of the Chinese Zodiac, they turn into the animal they are cursed with. The only exception is if the person is cursed as well. They would turn back into their original forms in a few minutes.

This manga is rated T for teens aged 13+. The author of this manga is Natsuki Takaya. In my opinion, it is a great, humorous, series.
