1. Approval of Minutes from the October 5, 2011 Library Commission Meeting
|
Commissioner Moriarty made a motion to accept the minutes of the October 5, 2011 meeting of the Springfield Library Board of Commissioners. Commissioner O'Connor seconded the motion.
The motion passed. |

2. Library Advisory Committee Reports: |
The Commissioners and Library Director's staff discussed how best to honor Kat Wright, Mason Square Branch Library Ambassador, who will be moving out of town in January 2012.

4. Chairman's Report: |
Ms. Fogarty announced that the Forest Park Branch Library received a gift of $216,000 for renovation of its Children's Room, tentatively to be named “The Charlie and Joan Ryan Family Place.” Designers plan to incorporate many unique features, and “bring Forest Park” into the Library. Plans will include changes to the main level staff workroom in order to make it a public program room. Funding is being provided by The Barker Foundation ($191,000) and Troy Murray ($25,000).
Mr. Moriarty made a motion to accept funding for the renovation of the Forest Park Children's Room to be named after Charlie and Joan Ryan. Ms. Fyntrilakis seconded the motion.

5. Director's Report:

Ms. Fogarty went over the Library's FY2011 Annual Report by accessing it on the internet in flipbook format.
The Library has been involved in the “Rebuild Springfield” planning efforts, with Ms. Fogarty, Mr. Ramsay or other library staff attending all meetings.
As an update to a discussion at a previous Commission meeting, Ms. Fogarty stated that the “William Rice clock” is now at the Museum of Springfield History (MOSH).
The FY13 budget process has not started yet.
Mr. Ramsay spoke briefly about the 50th Anniversary of WMRLS.
Work on temporary repairs to the Central Library ramp will begin very soon.
The Library is working on a new lease for the East Forest Park Branch Library, which will expire on 2/28/2012.
