Notes from the Meeting:

  1. Commissioners attending: Timothy Moriarty and Vera O'Connor.
  2. Mason Square Branch Library: now at a critical point. Henry Thomas is looking at 3 sites. The Urban League will vote on the recommendations. Steve Jablonski will be at the May 5 Library Commission meeting. Ms. Fogarty said that she would like to do a "Reading Garden" starting in the summer at Mason Square and offer Wifi outside. There is a meeting scheduled with the furniture vendor at the Mason Square Branch in 3 weeks. Read/Write/Now will stay at the Pine Point Branch Library; Mason Square needs a Community Room.
  3. Committee Report: none.
  4. Social Media Policy and By Laws Changes: postponed until next month.
  5. Stephen Spohn-Long Range Plan: Follow up comments following November's Staff Development Day.
    • Economic situations impacted library changes.
    • Library Review and Recommendations - Summary Report for Springfield City Library. Programs and Services - Stephen recommends doing something big and exciting.
    • Strategic Planning Process - Focus Groups will be convened for input. Objectives and funding priorities discussed. Long Range Planning Team will meet on June 14 and 15.
    • Citistat Assessment document discussed.
  6. Chairman's Report: none.
  7. Director's Report: Budget reductions mean unfilled vacancies. Division meeting tomorrow. Ms. Fogarty submitted all necessary paperwork in order to fill open positions. Mr. Moriarty submitted his certificate to show that he had completed the state ethics online training.
The next Library Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 5 in the Central Library Community Room.
