Friends!!!
By Lizbeth M.

Everybody has friends, or at least one. Friends are great! Sometimes you may have an argument or fight with your friend, but somehow you talk again and become friends. Sometimes that doesn't happen. It's good to have friends because everybody needs someone to talk to and share their feeling with. But not all friends are good. Like, the ones that ask or dare you to do bad things. Good advice -- don't do it. So choose the right friends. Also treat your friends right because you might not know it but friends can be a treasure. But as you should know not all friends is good news. Also it's not nice to make fun of your friends or your friends to make fun of you. It's always good to study, hang out, and play games with your friends. So choose the right friends to be with.

{So remember}.

Famous Authors:

Edgar Allen Poe

By Ingrid M.

The son of two actors, Edgar Allen Poe was an orphan before his third birthday. He was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Allen, and took their surname for his middle name. He lived with them in Richmond, Va., for five years. In 1826, he attended the University of Virginia only to leave after one year due to debt. He enlisted in the army for a few years, and eventually published three books, as well as various other poems and short stories. He also worked at the Southern Literary Messenger, but was eventually let go due to his habitual drinking. He married his young cousin Virginia, and was heartbroken when she died in 1847. He himself died two years later, in1849. His death is a mystery. We know that he was found dead in the streets, but no one knows what he died of . Some suggested causes are rabies, drug overdose, and alcoholism.

Edgar Allen Poe's works include The Raven , The Tell-Tale Heart , and The Fall of the House of Usher . His story The Murders in the Rue Morgue is credited with being the first detective story, and he was a master of horror stories. If you are a fan of poetry or horror stories, you really should try out Poe!

Does anybody like to
skateboard?

If you do, I'm going to tell you a story that you probably never heard of. One day I was skateboarding and I was trying to do a kickflip over seven stairs at the Welfare Building. My friend had his camera ready and, she said go . I went as fast as I could go. I'm concentrating, I 'm off the edge of my skateboard. Blackout!

I don't remember anything after that. I just know that I'm at the hospital with an IV on me. The doctor said that he's going to put me to sleep. Then I woke up and, I looked down..and there is the doctor, saying that I broke my ankle in two places.

When I got out of the hospital, it was hard for me to do natural things that I used to do easily. Three weeks went by and the cast finally came off. That was like the happiest day of my life. I loved it. Two months later I went back to skateboarding. I never did a kickflip over the seven stairs.

Life As A High Schooler

By: Alexandra D.

Entering high school as a freshman can be tough. It is usual for people to be nervous for the first day of school to start. It's even worse for a person who's starting a new school, and not knowing anyone that goes there. Once you enter high school, you see that it's way different from anything else. The process of making friends can be a tough one. As school goes on and you become accustomed to your daily routine, you'll find that everything gets easier.

One of the most important things about high school is your grades. From your freshman year, all the way to your senior year, your grades influence your overall GPA. It's important that you stay on track and continue to maintain good grades all throughout high school. It's not unusual for people to mess up their grades as a freshman. Then they realize that it affects their overall GPA, so don't mess up your GPA. It's important that you maintain a GPA that is not too low. When colleges look at your high school transcript, they prefer to see GPA's that are above 2.0. They really like people who maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. Typically, colleges would pick a person with a 3.0 or 3.5 GPA over a person with a 2.0 or 2.5 GPA.. So, if you want to get to go to your first choice college, it's important that you maintain at least the minimum GPA for that college. Colleges have certain entrance requirements that have to be met before you're able to enter.

It's important for you to know your counselor. They're the ones that have to help you fill out your college applications. It doesn't hurt for you to stop by their offices. They have a lot of information on different colleges. It's also important for you to have a good relationship with your teachers. When you get ready to apply to colleges, it would be helpful for them to be able write recommendations for you. They're an important part to getting you into the college of your choice.

Advice

By Katelyn R.

Dear Katelyn,

I feel bad because I will be leaving my mother all by herself while I go off to collage what should I do stay or leave?

Miss Confused

Dear Confused 17-year-old Girl,

I know that you going such a far distance from your mother may seem super hard, but I know what you are going through. I am too an only child and I want to go to college in California, but I know that my mother will be all alone. But just know this: that deep inside your mother's heart she is so happy that her daughter is going off to college. Your mother is thinking to herself that she can't believe how her daughter has grown into this intelligent woman who is now leaving her safe haven to go out into the unknown world that is full of such adventure. But you have to know that, yes, your mother is going to be lonely, but she is going to be just fine -- all mothers will. And if she has to, she will move into a smaller house. But you always know that if you need her, she is there; if you ever need to see her you can and let your mother know that you will always take care of her, because no one can love her like you can.

I hope I helped you in some way if you ever have a problem, just ask me!

Dear Katelyn,

I like dominating women, but other girls think that this is weird and that I am strange. Does me liking dominating women make me strange?

M+M

Dear M+M,

Don't rush it. There is a dominating woman out there somewhere for you, but you are young and no, this does NOT make you a freak. Maybe you are just asking the wrong girls -- you have to take it slow. I know a lot of dominating women out there. But dominating is the wrong word to use, say independent, you like a women who knows when to put her foot down and knows right from wrong. And who sticks up for herself.

But no, this is not weird at all. And no, an older women is not the answer just learn to take it slow. One day a beautiful independent woman is going to come your way and you will be older and wiser beyond your years.

If you want advice like these two people here, just ask by writing me a letter and put a code name so you can identify yourself in the newsletter. Put the letter in the ask katelyn can in Teen Central in the Central Library. You can also email questions to the Young Adult Librarian at mcoons@springfieldlibrary.org and she will forward them to me. I will answer your question. Ask anything.

The Big Mystery In Varrock
based on the massive online game Runescape.

A Story By Derrick

It was a normal day like no other. I was on my way to the famous Varrock library to research the guthix armor (an armor named after a god) -- but I would have never expected this to happen.

Well, I entered the library and ran across some of my old friends .One of my friends name was Shigure Taki and he was a very skillful wizard. He once helped me destroy an evil demon named Delrith Shigure. Taki was known for his powerful black magic and was wanted in Faldor for killing a White knight of Sir AmikVarze.

Another one of my friends there was a young boy by the name of Sir Ryan Nittle Marry the First, but we called him SRNM1. SRNM1 may have looked like a young little nice ordinary child, but he was actually a little rascal. When I first meet him he tried to steal my wallet. Even though he tried to steal from me I still felt sympathy for him, so I gave the young thief 1000gp(10k) and ever since then we have been friends.

Another one of my old accomplices was a mysteries man named Bothomas. This guy was wanted all through the land of Runescape, and there was a huge bounty of 8.5 million gp on his head. This guy was known for things like the big chase through Lumbridge (a chase through Lumbridge he had a few years back.) and the Devils Blade (a killing spree he once had, it was said he killed 300 men in a few minutes.) Yeah, I didn't pick the best of friends. Most of these characters have a bad record, but they all had a great gift.

My friends and I chatted for a while to catch up with each other when we heard a loud screechy scream coming from the aisle next to us. Knowing me I had to go check whats going on. We ran to the aisle and what we say shocked us all. We found a member (a civilian) lying on the floor after just being killed, but the strangest thing was the only way another member can be killed is in the wild (a land were you can go to fight other members). We all knew that it was against the laws for anyone to fight in the towns.

"SEAL THE DOORS!!!!" The banker behind the table said "no one is leaving this bank until we find out who committed this crime." Now I'm starting to think I must have bad luck, I'm stuck in this bank with a few friends with some bad records, and if one of these guys were the murderers, then they might think that I might have joined them since were friends. I got to find out what's going on in here in Varrock or I might be serving the rest of my life in jail.

As I Feel for You
A Poem by Lisa L.

As I feel the tears run down my cheek

I noticed that my heart is weak.

For the love I have for you

Is gold and true.

I know in my heart I will always

Love you .

I had made mistakes in the past,

but know my love will last.

Even though we are a distance apart

you will

Always have the key to my

heart.

Silver

By Ingrid M.

Moonlight on a quiet pond

Fish swimming just below the surface.

Rolling tumbling whispering clouds

Birds soaring beneath them.

A star in the silence just before dawn

The tail of a meteor shooting past.

Jellyfish gracefully dancing.

Watery reflections of the sea floor.

Secrets and snowflakes and the song of doves

Silver in essence, not as an element.

Thorns
By Ingrid M.

You cannot pick a rose without pain.

All things beautiful come with a price.

You cannot look in the face of the sun.

All things mighty wish to destroy.

You cannot reach out and touch the stars.

All things desired are just beyond reach.

You cannot revive the one who is gone.

All things missed never return.

You can hope.

But hope is powerless against reality.

A Song Lyric
By Melissa G.

I've would've never expected you to be
that one person I trusted with everything
I had in my life
to turn right back around and hurt me.
It was just yesterday when we both said
I love you to each other.
The simplest things made us happy
like the way your hands would always
find mine
the way you would tell me I love you
or like the way you would say
I miss you to me
but look at us now
we can't even say a word to each other
or make it seem like any of these things
ever happened between us.
Look into my eyes now and you can see all
the pain you have caused me
to go through.
None of your words can help you repair the broken heart
you gave me for your stupid mistakes.
Don't walk around with your head held high
because you're nothing without me.
Everything you put me through
will come back to haunt you.
Don't think I'm the only one who will suffer
because you can pretend like
you don't care
about me anymore
but I know deep inside it's burning you up
just for me to forgive
or say the special thing to you
and you'll get all happy.

For Teens

In school you may have friends - or at least people who say they are. Anyway, do as you want yourself, not as your friends want you to do - such as drinking, smoking and having serious relationships. Your friends don't always give you good advice, so it's on you to figure out if you should follow their advice.

Mad Maddie Comic Strip

Spells or Guns

Book 1 - continued..

By Dr. S.

ERIAWEN CITY, IQUEDA, The Silver Moon Inn:

Ahmi had received a downloaded message from Madam in Ari-Tajou City. He played the message in the hotel as Ll'ena watched it closely.

<Codename Mecha and Codename Pixie,> said Madam, < the girl has been identified as Princess Luciniada Crystalana de Archiliac. We examined her body to find that there had been some sort of electronic implant in the back of the neck, meaning that she had been brainwashed and someone was using some sort of mind control. If this sort of thing can be applied to any person, who knows what kind of secrets and devastation this will bring? Your mission is to find Codename Ninja and double team with him in search of the Sultan. He is hiding out in the palace, but we fear there maybe some aloof. We've tried to get in close, but there's a strict ban on technology here in Iqueda. Madam out, > The message ended abruptly.

"How can someone ban something that's good for them?" Ll'ena muttered.

< We must be on our way, Mademoiselle Ll'ena, > said Ahmi, < the gates to the palace closes at sundown because they fear invaders, >

"Then let's be on our way," Ll'ena decided. She got her tote bags and headed for the door, "We musn't keep his majesty waiting or Codename Ninja,"

7

ERIAWEN CITY, IQUEDA, Sajdui Palace Gates:

Ll'ena stood in front of the wooden doors of Sajdui Palace. Iquedian legend was that it had been raised from the sands by the gods to be the home of the holy sultan. In front of the double doors were two guards, glaring at Ll'ena, Ahmi, and her tote bags.

"Excuse me," Ll'ena said, "I'm here-"

"Go away, peasant woman," said one of the guards, "the sultan has no business with your kind today,"

Ll'ena continued, "-on official business with the sultan and I am with The Anarchy-"

"Didn't you hear him?" said the other guard, "No peasants today!"

"-I am Codename Mecha and this is Codename Pixie and we need to ask the sultan some questions-"

"Also, there is a technology ban here, woman!" said the other guard.

"-so would you please open the door for my partner and I?"

The guards grew impatient with Ll'ena and drew their swords. The first guard grabbed Ahmi, "Don't you know about the technology ban, woman?!"

Ll'ena glared at the guard and summoned up metals from her tote bags. They formed into a long sword, melding and molding together. She quickly slashed both the guards swords in the blink of an eye.

".a witch!" gasped the guard.

"I don't believe in witches," Ll'ena said, smiling, "I believe in alchemy,"

< Thank you, Mademoiselle Ll'ena! > said Ahmi as he flew to her side.

The guards immediately opened the doors for Ll'ena and let her inside of the palace.

8

ERIAWEN CITY, IQUEDA, Sajdui Palace Throne room:

His majesty the Sultan sat high up on his throne. He was an older man, graying hair, shining yellow skin, of ogre descent to be exact. Ll'ena and Ahmi bowed respectfully.

"What business have you foreigners here?" the sultan demanded.

"I am Codename Mecha of The Anarchy," Ll'ena explained, holding up her badge, "and this my partner Codename Pixie. I'm here to question you on the day your daughter, Princess Luciniada Crystalana de Archiliac, disappeared,"

"Nothing truly was occurring," said the sultan, "I do not know why they would kidnap Luciniada. Accept-"

"Accept what, your majesty?" Ll'ena asked.

"It has haunted me for years to keep it a secret, but I cannot bear it any longer, Codename Mecha. Luciniada is not my true child," the sultan confessed.

" What ?"

The sultan nodded, "Yes, yes, it is quite true. When King Meglkai had set fire to the elves' forest, a friend of mine sacrificed his life to save his single unnamed daughter. He gave the child to me, wishing to raise her. So, thus I raised Luciniada as my own,"

< But if Luciniada is not of your blood, then her husband cannot claim the throne, and neither can she is the moment shall arise, > said Ahmi.

"Who else knows of this?" Ll'ena demanded.

"Only myself," The sultan looked sad. "My wife once knew, but she died long ago in the Era of-"

The sound of glass breaking from all over the throne room and the sound of guns. The sultan panicked; he wasn't used to such noises due to the technology ban. Men came down the walls on cords and began to fire.

"Your majesty! Here !" Ll'ena said. She reached into her tote bag and pulled out diskettes, changing them into a shield and tossed it to the sultan. The sultan grabbed the shield and the bullets slammed into it, leaving marks of melted plastic. Ll'ena made her own shield own of diskettes and, cracking open another PDA, formed a laser blaster.

"Stop in the name of The Anarchy! You are under arrest for attacking the sultan of Iqueda!" Ll'ena commanded, "If you do not surrender, The Anarchy shall not be held responsible for any bodily harm that comes to you!"

The men continued firming at Ll'ena. Ahmi hid behind the shield with her.

"So you want to play a little rough, huh?" Ll'ena growled. She reached into her other tote bag and yanked out wires and computer chips. They clicked together perfectly, but Ll'ena was running on time as the men continued shooting at her.

Ahmi's antennae stretched out and attached to the shield, < Damage to shield 40%. Defense is down and weakening, >

Ll'ena was still connecting, still configuring and turning on each of the wires, making sure that reach of snapped into place with each other.

The bullets kept on coming. The sultan had already been hit several times, < Damage to shield 60%...68%...75%... >

Her latest creation was finished. Ll'ena jumped up on the diskette shield, holding in her hand and crudely made bazooka - the shell made out of diskettes, the insides out of PDA insides and it fired bullets made out compact discs. She smiled as the men went running.

Ll'ena smirked, "Oh.you're gonna pay now!"

She fired and the men were blasted everywhere. She fired again and a hole was formed in the palace wall. She fired again and again and there was chaos all around her. She triumphantly laughed, seeing that her enemies were now gone. She then looked at the injured sultan - barely gasping onto life.

Ll'ena and Ahmi ran to him, "Your majesty!"

".beware." choked the sultan.

< Beware? > Ahmi said.

".beware a dead man." choked the sultan. His head bobbed down into his chest.

"Your majesty!" Ll'ena called.

No answer.

" Your majesty! " Ll'ena said, almost panicking.

Click .

Ll'ena felt the nozzle of a gun being pressed to the back of her head. She made sure not to make any sudden moves or it could be the death of her. A man stood in back of her, clothed in black.

"I see The Anarchy sent one of their agents," said the man, "Too bad you won't be able to tell your boss want a good job you did getting rid of my coworkers!" The gun clicked again. " Die ,"

Ll'ena held her breath - this was it!

The gunshot didn't go off. Instead the man yelled as his arm was bent behind his back, snapping it. Someone behind him was restraining him.

"Who are you?" the man demanded.

"Codename Ninja," answered the person as they smacked the gun out of the man's hand with a swift kick. He then karate chopped the man on the neck, leaving him unconscious.

Ll'ena looked at her hero - an Elf about her age, maybe even older knowing that Elves could look young and be old in real life. He wore a spandex black outfit and by his side was a single, thin, long, Elvish sword. His hair had been dyed red and black. His eyes a soulless black instead of the usual Elvish blue.

"What kind of agent of The Anarchy are you?" the Elf growled, "You let some idiot sneak up on you with a gun. I thought you were supposed to be powerful ,"

"Who said I was powerful?" said Ll'ena, "I just do alchemy,"

"Alchemy nothing," Codename Ninja muttered, "that was some work of magic,"

"I don't believe," Ll'ena explained, "in magic, I believe in alchemy,"

The Elf snorted.
