Art Classes for Children and Teens at Indian Orchard

Children and teens can develop their artistic sides through a six-week series of free classes at the Indian Orchard Branch of the Springfield City Library this fall. Professional artists from the Gallery 137 art gallery will focus on sequential art in the small classes to be held on Wednesdays for teens and Saturdays for children ages 8-12. The Library is located at 44 Oak Street in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield.
The teen classes will be held from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, October 15 - November 19, and the children's classes will be held from 12:30 to 2:00 pm, October 18 - November 22. Pre-registration is required and students are highly encouraged to attend all classes. Call 263-6846 to enroll or register using our online calendar.
Sequential art shows the transition from one important point to the next. It's a form of art that has been used throughout the ages, from ancient hieroglyphs to graphic novels, showing how events unfold through words and pictures. Students will use artists' materials and techniques such as clay, pen and ink, and printmaking.
Funding for the workshops is provided by a three year, $15,000 grant from the Hampden Bank Charitable Foundation.
New classes will be offered starting in the winter.
